Boden goes solo

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Jon Boden is only a slip of a lad at 39 years old, but he's already had a long, varied and distinguished musical career. This year he's doing something he's never done before — a solo tour!

Jon Boden - taking flight as a solo artist
Jon is well known for his work with duo partner John Spiers, and as the leader of bands including the mighty (and now defunct) Bellowhead. He's made solo albums and has recorded loads of solo songs for his own podcast project A Folksong A Day, but until now he's never toured as a solo artist.

Jon announced his new move today, saying: "My first solo gig is going to be at Cambridge Folk Festival which feels very appropriate. It’s a festival I’ve played many, many times in every possible guise... as is Sidmouth Folk Festival. There’s something really special about both of them. Similarly, playing at Snape Maltings. It’s a really beautiful concert hall. I’ve done some wacky stuff there over the years. (This time) it’ll just be good to go there with a just guitar and a fiddle and see what happens.."

On his website, Jon adds: "It'll just be me on stage - voice, fiddle, guitar, concertina, stomp box etc and I’ll be playing a variety of traditional material (including a few Bellowhead favourites) alongside my own songs from 'Painted Lady' and 'Songs From The Floodplain'."
